Ha! I didn’t notice that until you pointed it out. Yeah, that’s a 100% custom job. Maybe another way of introducing air pressure to the tank rather thsn rely on crank case pressure????

Don’t have a lot of experience with Merc pressure tanks but does it appear that the primer button is missing? Schrader valve used to provide initial priming?

Good idea Kirk! I did notice the primer was missing initially but didn’t put two and two together!

I think some type of system to empty the tank at
the end of the season could be added to the list
of possibilities for the fitting at the bottom of the
              tank.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

I finally got a photo of my old Mercury tank.
(after I found my Dollar Store “sticky note” on the floor today)

Mine has no hoses, but appears there was two hoses on the tank,
                no Shrader valves!

Other than that, only thing I know for sure is get 3M sticky notes,
not the ones from the Dollar Store!

Buc, I’ve got a merc fitting for you if you decide to put that one into service.

The fitting in the original photo looks more like a barbed hose fitting than a Schrader valve so the tank may have been used as a non pressurized gas tank for a piece of equipment or something.

How would the schrader valve prime the carb ?????

My initial thought was that you could use a tire pump to pressurize the tank as the primer button would. That would be pretty mickey mouse. In thinking about it, it would be better to be at the top of the tank. Not being a schrader valve, a fuel delivery port may make more sense.

A question for those more knowledgeable. On a Merc tank, does the “primer” prime the carb or pressurize the tank?

Prime the carb then the motor running pressurizes the tank.
