Well it was supposedly never in salt . The guys fil owned it and he lived on a fresh water lake and that where he ran it mostly .. I did find some water in the lower unit so it’s gunna need new seals ..
I did the compression check with the pull cord cold .. 110, 115, 112, 115 … The original owner changed the necessary parts and added a starter ..Got a few extra parts and pieces including an extra starter . And it came with the original controls … It’s a bit crusty from sitting out side for a while but nothing that’s unfixable I believe ..
Got him down to 350 bucks .. Hopefully I didn’t over pay but it’s sure should be a looker when it’s done ..December 21, 2019 at 8:32 pm #189716Good #####;s I had one. ran 36mph on a 15ft Aristocraft.

That dirt ramp too.
And that hat on the tall dude! And Hank!
Ha!
Next meet, find Jonathan.
He knows Mercurys.
He drives those super small super fast little hydros.
With mercs on ’em.
He’ll be excited to help out.
I think he even has one of the motors you just got.
All re-done and bee a you tee full.

December 22, 2019 at 6:19 am #189725I guess the compression is good. Just a tad low for my blood but it could just be the gauge and the fact that it probably hasn’t run in years. It is fairly even. That’s the biggest thing.
Now, to sort of paraphrase the Capital One commercials, “What’s in YOUR gear case?”
Long live American manufacturing!
December 22, 2019 at 9:30 am #189726I have a lower for it if needed.

GeerYeah Geer that was a fun get together… I,m doing the Lady Liberty pose and thats my son in law with me .. My daughter is in the foreground with the ball cap on ..
Thanks for the heads up with Jonathan ..
I hope the evinrude guys don,t disown me for swapping the Speeditwin out for the Merc . I have an aluminum boat now that I will run it on along with some other motors ..
With the tiller handle installed .. But when I am just showing the boat the Speeditwin will go back on . It’s original to the boat and I have a picture or two of the boat on Lake Mich from the 50’s That will be displayed with it .December 22, 2019 at 10:33 am #189729I guess the compression is good. Yes when the water came out it did concern me . Hopefully its not trashed … We will see …
And it may have been my HF compression tester and that bottom cylinder was hard to get to .. I may not have had it snugged up enough for a good seal . idk .December 22, 2019 at 10:46 am #189730Thanks Dave ! I’m interested in seeing what it actually looks like .. I, ve done a little looking around for parts sourcing .. Hopefully I can get everything needed ..
How do y’ll prefer the multitude of questions that I will sure to have when I start the restoration .. I see a lot of different questions to the same motor on different threads .
I think it would be better to keep all the questions in one thread for the one motor . But I can do it individually if thats whats preferred …December 22, 2019 at 12:19 pm #189734OR call me . 1 914 310 7086 Dave.
