Mercury 40 hp 4 cyl basket case

I’ve been working on getting a Mercury 40 hp 4 cyl that I got on a boat I bought a couple of years ago. It’s a bit of a basket case and ive managed to find homes for most of the parts in the box but I’m struggling with some of the loose parts and reconnections.

If someone has the same motor it would be great to get some pictures to see where the loose parts I have fit into the picture.

I have provided a few pictures, the first is the parts I have left over. The second is the serial number which is the only ID I can seem to find on the motor. I believe it to be a 1990s motor. The third picture is of a linkage that I think should fit into the park I’m holding it up to but it does not seem to fit. Am I missing something?

One of the Rochester, NY area clubs used to have a site that posted manuals and parts diagrams for older Mercs. That might be a good place to start looking.
