I have a 50s vintage Mercury 78a 6 cylinder outboard and controls. This is the type that starts in gear and to reverse it, it restarts in reverse gear from a button on the speed lever. It ran great 40 years or so ago when I put it into storage. It is complete except for the front cover.

Does it have any collector value or is it destined to the scrap dealer?

Don’t scrap it! There are many of us here who love dockbusters. Pist some pictures or sell it on this site in the classifieds. It’s free!

        Where is the motor located?

Yeah, don’t scrap it! The parts are worth ten times the value of the complete motor, to the right person. (Not me, though.)

          Long live American manufacturing!

Definitely don’t scrap. Worth while rebuild or plenty of us would gladly give it a new home
