I noticed that my restored mercury mark 25 still has the original lead seal. Are their parts that should have been replaced that require taking that seal off?
      Thanks
      Jason.

If the block wasn’t taken apart, the motor has the original pistons and rings, all all the other original internal goodies.

Are there any extra parts you recommend I buy? I bought replacement coils already from Jim.

I can’t see what is embossed on the seal – is it the Mercury logo? Generic lead seals are available and can just be shut with pliers or with a custom seal, like Merc used. I have used generic seals to reseal motors I rebuilt, just with pliers.

If the motor has good compression and turns smoothly, I would fix the ignition and run it. See how it sounds, etc, at low revs. Those motors are hard to wear out if lubed and cooled correctly. 😉

Was that not "Uncle Carl’s" excuse for voiding warrantees?

Once again the question is raised "What is Restored?"

How much did you Pay for restored ?? If you wanted new Pistons and Rings + Bearings and Seals you would pay $1,000.00 easily

With exception of upper and lower seals, nothing internally is going to go bad with age unless left oil-dry in a damp place.
