      Still cataloging outboards for a local museum, but this time my questions are about Sea Kings. We have two motors, one has a model # 14-KI-8819 and a serial number of 2294 while the other Sea King has a model # 04-Kl-8820 but with no identifiable serial number. My best guess is that both are 1940 Mercury-made Sea Kings in the 2.5+hp range, but I honestly do not know. Does anyone have a good guess as to the year and horsepower of each? Any and all help appreciated.

            14-KI-8819 is a 1941. Reverse the 14:41. 04-Kl-8820 is a 1940.

              The 1940 Sea King is rated 2.8 HP The 1941 is rated 2.9HP
