      Hi,

Starting to restore a Mark58A. Which has 130psi in all four cylinders. The wire with the lead biscuit is still intact near the fuel pump.  I am reluctant to pull it all apart per the service manual to change the upper and lower seals. Is there an easier way to change them? The manual indicates, to me at least, the need to separate (tear down) the cylinder head? Including checking the internals then re-constructing the motor, going so far as checking crank end play etc.  Am I wrong in thinking that the caps can be removed one at a time then serviced or replaced, then installed one at a time?  Thanks for all answers Dave

You absolutely can pull the end caps out to change the seals. There are threaded holes in each cap, into which you screw screws from a plate puller of your choice. Enjoy; as this is one of a handful of ways that Mercurys are actually EASIER than OMC!

          Long live American manufacturing!
