I think this is a Fastwin????
Anywho, I am beyond baffled with this one,.
I hold no ill towards whom I bought the part from, that being said.
I purchased a transom clamp screw to replace my broken one along with 2 transom pads.I ended up replacing the transom bracket as well as someone well before me and the last 3 owners had cut the transom bracket for whatever reason as well as cutting the pads.
So I removed the one good screw and screw it into the replacement bracket, and then attempt to install the new screw and it will not thread, the pitch is different.
Standard 5/8-11 thread is what the replacement was but the original is 5/8-12 ??????????
I confirmed by threading the original screw into all for bracket holes in both brackets and it threads in just fine….
I have triple checked the thread pitch and it is indeed 12 pitch on the original and 11 pitch on the replacement using Starrett thread pitch gages.
So are they originally 5/8-12???

I’m gonna ask a stupid question… Is the pitch the same all along the screw? (Is it possible the aluminum part was stretched near the pad?)

February 15, 2018 at 12:13 pm #71076Good question and the answer is, the threads are not stretched. 12 tpi the entire length, and the original threads in all the way with no issues.

classicomctools@gmail.comFebruary 16, 2018 at 12:46 am #71089Richard,—so what do you want to do? Find a tap? Get another thumb screw? Let me know. BTW, the 145 is a Fastwin. The water tube compression nuts are .050 undersize from standard 3/8ths compression nuts,—so don’t loose them!

February 16, 2018 at 1:56 am #71092I am just trying to confirm that the original is 5/8-12 and NOT 5/8-11.
That is all
The solution is, since it is not a RBM to wait until Constantine to pick up another..
