My Uncle has a small Johnson that has on the flywheel
"J XXXXXX" (J followed by the serial number)
Would this be the J25 Johnson? I don’t see just
a plain "J" model listed. Seems like I’ve read
about this problem before, but am not able to
      find the answer.
      Thanks!

Johnson made several J type models over the years so if you can find the serial number on it, you should be able to identify the year and model. It might be one of these singles:

        J-25……’25 – ’32

        J-65……’33

        J-70……’34

        J-75……’35

        J-80……’36

Mumbles, the serial number is on the flywheel, right after
the letter "J", but I didn’t write it down. But now, thanks
to you, "I get it"!, and will figure it out next visit.
          Thanks!

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
