Mark, I was made aware that the carb needle in question here is a 2-piece affair. It has a stainless steel tip inserted into the end of the threaded brass part that you had in your hand in the pictures. The piece that is stuck in your carb body is the stainless steel point. Heat should have the same effect with this difference in materials. There is more to the piece that is stuck than just the tapered tip though. The piece should be long enough to be able to gently wiggle the flat end that was inside the brass with an awl or pick or something similar. With heat and a penetrant and a wiggle and a tap, it ‘should’ come out. I hope this helps.

Having one of these motors I wonder if the threaded hole and the metering hole are not concentric, causing a side load on the needle. Or maybe the nylon bushing that is supposed to guide the needle end is causing a side load. That would fatigue the stainless needle. I just cannot see how one could break it off in the carb any other way. If trying to work it off from the threaded end be careful not to mess up the threads.

have you tried freezing and heating the carb while it soaks oil….the cycles may let the oil penetrate a bit more and a few good wacks will eventually cause it to just… drop out ???

I have heated and cooled it 5 or 6 times with the chamber filled with penetrating oil. Hasn’t budged yet. It isn’t in a place that allows really good whacks.

How much of the SS tip is visible inside the threaded portion of the carb? It almost appears as if the SS tip, which is about .5" long just pulled out of the threaded brass portion. Perhaps you can slip a small pick/dentist type tool inside the threaded portion of the body, then rock the broken SS shank/needle out of the pocket. Again, be gentle, rocking the needle might distort the aluminum mating surface that the needle is stuck in…

That’s exactly what I was talking about.
