I don’t think anyone mentioned that the liners are installed into the rod ends, and outside of the needles. Not visa-versa. The rods are not hardened enough to sustain the load of the needles on their surface. The crank and the liners perform that task. It’s a cheap way to make a rod assembly. Have fun boating. R.T.

I took all the suggestions and tried to install the needles and liners on the rod end. I still have a problem which is quite frustrating. The needles are a hair longer and do not fit into the collar of the liners vertically. Is there something that I did not understand ? Everytime I have screwed in the rod ends with the needles and liners in place, I land up with the needles getting bunched up under the liners. Is there anyway the collar on the liners can be expanded to fit in the needles.
        Please help

Lets back up a bit. The needles don’t fit into the liners, they fit on them. The liners snap onto the rod and cap first giving the needles a hard bearing surface to run on along with the crank journal.

Get your rod and cap properly aligned by finding the small pip or cast in marks on them. Then snap the liners onto the rod and cap so the pip marks remain aligned when being assembled. Try putting the cap onto the rod to make sure everything is fitted properly before trying to do it in the motor. If everything fits and lines up correctly, you are good to go.

This photo shows the order in which they go.
