March 18, 2021 at 10:09 pm #234239I am guessing that’s the serial number. What make of motor
March 19, 2021 at 8:09 am #234264Sorry about that its a Johnson 25 HP
March 19, 2021 at 8:52 am #234266Serial number doesn’t seem right. Some variation of that number like 1082031 would make it a 1954 model.

March 20, 2021 at 1:26 am #234370Look between the thumb screws for the Champion model no. & serial no. stamped in. Possibly a 1936 Model B.
March 20, 2021 at 7:35 am #234374thanks there is a stamped # 156526 but the list does not specify any numbers mine says the 1935A and the 1936 1B are both are both standard 3.2 HP so how do i know and where did you get your list have you ever owned 1 that old well thanks so much for your reply and have a nice weekend hope to chat with you again Mr. Nicholson if you have and get a chance any other info would be great and if you ever have a question ill try to help you from a Maine rooky where the air is so cold in the spring you’ll swear you don’t need water to cool off a small outboard motor ha ha
March 22, 2021 at 12:26 am #234572Take a rag and a flashlight and you will see that your number 156526 is actually 1B 6526. Indicating a 1936 Model 1B. Yes, I have a few of those. You can also find that number stamped into the crankcase after you remove the steering handle assembly.
March 22, 2021 at 8:07 am #234583alright Harry your the man thanks. so while i took the magneto off very strange no cam its built into the mag did a fluke test everything seem to be right with condenser magnet and points coil ect. i have the old spark plug witch come down to a point with adapter that goes over it champion its probably made and designed before my time any way getting continuity thru the plug [do not know what the points gap should be or the spark gap should be] should the piston be at TDC when adjusting the points its very hard to see the built in cam on the magneto housing the open window for adjusting is narrow. also any help on adjusting the carb would be great and gas mixture. you know i could go on but any info would be great or where to find any info thanks again for serial # issue.
March 23, 2021 at 3:11 pm #234744The spark plug gap is .027, the points gap is .015.
When installing flywheel, don’t force it in case the flywheel points cam is hitting the points if the points are way off.
The fuel mix is 2/3 pint of SAE 30 wt oil per gallon of gas for normal use. Can be reduced to 1/2 pint oil for extended trolling.
The prop nut should have left-hand threads and no cotter pin.
The water pump has 2 check valves which should be clean, not oily. Clean intake screen.
Carb setting is 1 1/4 turn open for high speed needle, 1/2 turn open for low speed needle (screwdriver slotted).
Magneto: Piston position is irrelevant for point setting. When the points are viewed through the triangular window, gap is .015. When the points are viewed through the round window hole they should be seen opening and closing with slight flywheel movement. Test the points gap, adjust, repeat until .015″.
Starting cold: Set both carb needles.
Set carb throttle lever at halfway point.
Lift up choke lever to choke.
Start.
Adjust needles to best running position.1 user thanked author for this post.
