Hi guys,
I need some help here. I’m not a Merc guy, and I’m quite unfamiliar with them. I picked up a 1967 Merc 200 that was a tiller motor. Thanks to 20mercman he steered me to a NOS conversion kit for it on Ebay and I picked that up. Now my dilemma is the controller. I see at least 4 or 5 different styles/types of Merc controllers searching on Ebay. What model of Merc control should I be looking at to hook this all up? I know the 200 uses a unique cam inside the control box, but what is the proper box?
Another option I’m throwing around in my head is going Frankenstein and using an old J/E two lever controller since I only need throttle and shift (no electric start or choke on this motor) Can the Merc cables be used with the J/E controller?Confused in Wisconsin

If someone doesn’t have a simpler way to answer your question, I just checked and I do have enough literature to be able to give you a correct control box part number and numbers for internal parts of that control box. However, I would need to know what your serial number for the engine is and also, if you have electric start on the engine. (Not even sure that was available in ’67; but I go by serial number, not year.)

August 16, 2015 at 7:13 pm #22139Thank you Bill,
The serial# is 2151677. The motor has no electric start, and I do not want to add one. This motor is for a 10′ wooden Gentleman’s racer styled after the like boats from the 50’s. It’s all about going fast…no frills.August 16, 2015 at 7:15 pm #22140Call me 1 914 310 7086. Dave.

August 16, 2015 at 10:04 pm #22150Wannabe let me know what you find. I have a 1975 Mercury 200 I want to add as a kicker to my fishing rig and would like to run controls for it as well so I don’t have to lean off the transom to shift it and adjust throttle!
