My low speed needle retainer crumbled in my hands today. My 9.9 is will not stay running at low rpms. If that part was ruined would it let air in and mess up my low speed causing my problem?
A new one has been ordered.
      Thank you

No, the retainer does not seal anything. It only keeps the needle from vibrating and changing settings.
