Coils are bad. any idea on a replacement coil or repair this one. It appears to have been wound on the iron core.
November 3, 2025 at 8:52 pm #301190Looking at Tubs post below me… I may be incorrect… so please, pics of the coil …If not what he showed you then I am good, if it IS what he showed you, then I am wrong again…lol Yes that can be modified, I have done it with OMC coils as well as with the dual output Military surplus coils.. There are a couple of guys that have great info on how to do that… I failed to document what I did..

Not familiar with that motor but I believe you have one of these twin coils. If that is correct the OMC substitution doesn’t apply. Replacement coils are available at $125.00 on up, so you first want to be sure yours is really bad. So how did you determine yours is bad. Sometime today I’ll dig out one of the motors I have with that coil, see what the secondarys read, and post it. If you have twin coils, I’ll show you how they can be substituted.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Michael; I also have a Neptune 16hp twin….sorry I can’t help on the coils…mine are good. But what i’m trying to find is a donor motor….I need a magneto plate and carburetor. Parts seem are to come by…any help would be appreciated….located near Flint Mi. Thanks.
January 4, 2026 at 11:20 pm #303044These Eisermann mag coils have been successfully replaced with the John Deer Pony Motor coils. That is the same mag that is in a Lawson Sport King 6 hp twin. Club member here did a replacement, and it worked out OK. Mag armature laminations have to be shaved down from 5/8 to 1/2 inch to fit. If I remember there was a post here . or maybe a tech article in the AO about that substitution.
