      I have a friend that has what looks like a Neptune outboard. The rope sleeve is plain with no Neptune stamped on it but has model number 2 D 39 X and serial number 11168 D2 IT looks like the 1938 2hp. Neptune. What is this motor , a motor for another company or a odd Neptune or something else? I told him you guys would know.

        A 2A39 is a ’39 Neptune 2 horse single while a 2B29 is the Muncie version but I can’t find a listing for a 2D39 anywhere.

          I believe your 2D39 is a 1939 2HP "GAMBLES" built by Neptune for GAMBLES Hardware stores to sell. Gambles also sold other brands over the years. My 1940 2HP Neptune 10D2 motor has GAMBLES still barely readable on the decal.

            Thanks guys I think Gambles would be the most likely seller since it has a plain rope sleeve minus the Neptune logo. This 1939 2 horse looks just like the Neptune minus the logo Thanks again
