New Guy here and I’m hoping that this will be the resource I need to get quite a few old motors going. I got them from my dad and some have been in the family since the late 70’s. I know what makes I have but not all of the models yet and I’m working on a spreadsheet to organize my data along with pics. Some have ran in the last year or two, others not in a long time.

      Motors I have:

      1930 Champion model A, 1.5hp Johnson K-50 (I think) 1938 Champion D2D Lite Twin Early 1 cyl Evinrude 3.5? Johnson TN-28

      Firestone 7.5 Martin 10hp 1957 Johnson 3.5 hp Champion Blue Ribbon Mercury Mark 25E 1956 25hp Evinrude 1983 15hp Evinrude

I’m tinkering with the K-50 first, it used to power a tender for a commercial fishing boat, The Capt was a family friend. Anyone have any videos or advice on taking the lower unit apart? Seems to be stuck. It was free when stored years ago.

Look forward to hanging out on this site and thanks in advance for any/all info.

well.. to start you off on a few of those motors take a look into these sites and book

it covers lots of oldies in the Johnson family but the are almost twins to Evinrudes
        http://boatinfo.no/lib/johnson/manuals/ … on.html#/0

Visit Leroy’s site also .. it contains lots of info basic and motor specific
        http://www.leeroysramblings.com/

        and duckworks
        http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/06/col … ticles.htm

a good reading book to have for Johnson/Evinrudes is "Cheap Outboards" by Max E. Wawrzyniak III (3rd)

tons of stuff to read and folks to help… why not join AOMCI !!

Very addictive hobby .. be warned 😀

        Joining AOMCI has priviledges 🙂

Crosbyman, thanks for the links and book suggestion.

I enjoy Peter Hunn’s "the old outboard book" for info at times, I’m sure many on this site have as well.

Peter Hunn’s "The Old Outboard Book" is my bible – I have a 1955 Big Twin Evinrude 25 Horse Power. Also an older Speeditwin. We do have a lot of fun with our old motors. Welcome to our group, . . 🙂

Thanks Gary, great pics! I have an old big twin myself that is a great runner (not for a few years though) but needs cosmetic restoration. Would love to repaint and find the original decals. Previous owner went crazy with a spray can.

              What a tank!

I didn’t have near as many motors as you have when
I found this club. This year I sold 2 and gave 3 away
cause I just have more motors than I have the room for.
There is so much interesting stuff that I never even
knew about and now I have or have had some of them.
I don’t think I have ever bought a running motor and
without this club most would have remained that way.
You have just opened the door to the best source of
motors, parts, and information that you’ll find in this hobby.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

                      Welcome aboard!

Be warned, you better have lots of room or an empty building somewhere because you will be needing it! Guaranteed! 😀

Mumbles is right. I’m working on my second 2-tier rack now. These things have a way of multiplying. 😎
