I appreciate being able to ask the experts about my Johnson TN-27. The tank has plenty of dents as most do. However a guy has offered me a “flawless” replacement and that would save me hours of filling and sanding. Its about 3 hours from me, so I have not seen it yet. Heres the question: My motor has the neutral switch lever and he says his does not. So i’m guessing his is not a tn-27. I believe mine is a 1951, are tanks made prior to that able to be used for my motor with the lever? There don’t appear to be any relief areas on the tank for the lever, but the holes for the shaft would need to be there and I don’t know if they are on previous models. This is my first attempt at working on these old motors and I am a true novice! Thanks again, Steve

If there is no hole in his tank for the neutral lever shaft his tank must be from a TD instead of a TN. You must find a TN tank.

gotcha—ill ask if there is a hole. He told me it was a TN and I assumed it was from an earlier year. Maybe he is mistaken. Thanks!
