hello. I’m not very knowledgeable about racing motors(beyond what is in the old outboard Book), but I have just purchased what I am fairly sure are racing props, and I would like to know what they are and what they’re worth before I sell (some) of them(depending on weather or not I may eventually use them). Here is a picture of the whole lot. Following this post, I will post individual posts pertaining to each prop so that the file size does not get too big.

October 25, 2025 at 8:22 pm #300922The first prop was labeled by it’s previous owner(now deceased) as a hot rod propeller. It is very small compared to the 8 HP 4ks I have, so I would assume that would make it from a midget hot rod if it is indeed a hot rod prop. All of the markings on it are in the picture. They are BSHSC, 1 3/4, and 63. It’s around 6.5″ diameter, maybe a bit larger

October 25, 2025 at 8:25 pm #300926The second prop is a michigan wheel “dynamic” with the markings of + and D. It’s about 7 inches in diameter or so.

October 25, 2025 at 8:28 pm #300930the third is labeled “Johnson Oakland Calif. U.S.A” and has what I believe to be the numbers 8, 3(above the 8 in a manner similar to an exponent) and 8(in line with the first 8), and a little to the side I believe the number 11 to be stamped, but it is a bit dinged up in that area to tell. Its close to 8″ diameter.

October 25, 2025 at 8:33 pm #300934The fourth has the number 101 written by the previous owner on the blade, but I am not sure what that means. On one side it is labeled with 15 and the number 100692 beneath it, and on the other it is labeled “made by pitchometer Alamf.da Calafornia U.S.A.” It has no other markings, and has a tiny bit of pitting that I believe is just poor casting. It is also a bit thicker than the other props, which could be a design to compensate for poor castings? It’s about 9 inches diameter or so.

October 25, 2025 at 8:36 pm #300939The final one is labeled for a kg-7. It’s a Michigan wheel prop with the markings AJ62, and has some sort of extra piece that goes into the holes where the shear pin usually is, and that piece is designed to accommodate some sort of prop shaft similar to those that I think were used on later mercs. It’s about 9 ish inches in diameter.

October 25, 2025 at 8:40 pm #300944All in all, what motors are they for, and what are they worth? They are all in great physical shape with the exception of minor pitting on the pitchometer prop. I don’t really know how to measure the pitch, and the diameters are just rough estimates (with a ruler sitting beneath them).

October 25, 2025 at 8:42 pm #300945the second part of the “Mercury KG-7” prop is not made of brass, it is a similar color to steel or aluminum. The picture made it look a weird shade.

A 20 cubic inch Champion Hot Rod prop will have a prop shaft dia. of 1/2 inch and can have a dia of around 6″ in. If you can get in contact with those who have a need for them, the value varies with the props design, if it is one they don’t have, and could possibly work with their set up.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
