Looks like its in great condition!
Stand is rare, never seen one before. Great find. Worth more than the motor in my opinion.

I don’t think she even notices what I bring in anymore. It is not comparable to your motor at all. At all. But, it is kinda your fault.October 9, 2016 at 12:28 am #45465Mark,
That’s a nice looking ’56 and the stand is definitely worth something. I don’t know what you paid but I’d bet you did OK when you figure in the stand. I can’t really say what that Oliver stand is worth but I’d bet it’s worth quite a bit to an Oliver collector. There can’t be too many of them out there. I’ve never seen one and I see I’m not alone there. The ’58 Dan has is something for sure. If many of us (including Dan) had his motor we wouldn’t even run it seeing as it hasn’t had fuel in it since the factory test run. I’ll bet you will run that one and enjoy it. 😉

October 9, 2016 at 1:34 pm #45503Very nice motor and stand, good shoppin’ !
Picked up my first "factory" stand last week, an Evinrude and notice that it is very similar structurally to your Oliver.
I’m assuming that maybe the motor manufacturers outsourced the stands, having different heads cast for some, or simply different badges for others?
My seller was asking $30 for his stand, so I didn’t even negotiate as I thought that was a fair price.
I realize that the Oliver would be much rarer and more valuable.October 9, 2016 at 1:49 pm #45505I am sure you are correct abouthat the stands being from the same manufacturer. I have an old Evinrude stand I picked up in some deal that looks very similar but maybe "Evinrude " is cast into it.

I, for sure, overkicked my coverage. I have this gift card to Krystal that I have been holding back for a special occasion. 😉
October 9, 2016 at 11:15 pm #45529Checked the motor out a little. Compression is less than 20 lbs. Major Bummer. I also cleaned the carb and "sorta" checked the spark. The carb would have probably been fine without the cleaning and I will get my spark tester on it in a bit to see if the spark is actually adequate in a bit. Now to find the part number on the gasket. I didn’t see any reason for the compression problems as the gasket looked to be intact. There was a little white fouling in the water jacket and on the gasket that I assume is salt. I scraped as much of that out as I could but nothing was really blocked before I started. Inside of the cylinders looks good. No scratches or scoring. Very smooth and uniform. Hoping a gasket is the issue. The head has been off before. Makes me wonder…
