Hopefully this is not too far off topic. I recently bought a "Lucraft" 14′ boat. It has a 40 HP Evinrude Lark IV. I want to replace the engine as it seems to be a lot of engine for a 14 footer. Unfortunately the boat data plate is missing, so I do not know weight capacity or motor HP capacity. Having trouble finding info on the lucraft.

Anybody out there have access to a Lucraft 14 foot dataplate? Maybe you could send a photo of the plate? (Naturally with serial number obscured.)

I see that Iboats has a listing on Lucraft 14′ models. You may be able to find details there? Good luck.

Thanks Dan! I have seen that page. It has the most information I have found so far. Unfortunately it lists the boat empty weight, but not weight capacity. If I go with a 40HP 4 stroke they are normally heavier than 2 strokes, so I am at a loss regarding my options.

Considerably heavier. Your motor weighs 154 pounds. A Yamaha 4-stroke 40 weighs 223 pounds (electric start)

That looks to be a mid-70’s 14′ tri-hull utility – motor capacity of 35hp. Also looks to be a short transom. Measure to see if it’s about 15". Your 40hp is a long shaft. Does cavitation plate ride about 5" below the bottom of the boat? If so, you probably need a short shaft motor. I’d look for a mid-70’s 25hp or 35hp motor.

This was the formula used in the 1950s to rate boats for recommended highest "safe" horse Power . . . 🙂

How about that, the chart agrees with what is written on the plate in my boat.
