      Today I removed the thermostat out of the ’60 Evinrude Lark with the scored cylinder walls I had posted earlier and guess what I found. First, as expected, a bunch of salt corrosion.

      Then, after cleaning the stat up a bit, there was the build date, Sept of ’59. This means the motor had never had the stat replaced in 57 years! OMC quality or owner neglect?

        Did you test it to see if it still works after cleaning? looks pretty good all cleaned up.When i have found an old t stat, it comes out in 2 or 3 pieces.

          Yeah, I had it working. You can see where I soldered it back together after buffing everything inside but I think putting it in the microwave killed it.

              I should have mentioned the t stat was in a plastic container half full of water. It works OK that way.
