February 19, 2022 at 12:15 pm #254946You must have bought the last of them…they show not available anymore. I looked the other day after reading Bill Mohat’s article on condensers and they also are not available.
February 19, 2022 at 12:58 pm #254947lets put it this way… they have not reached me yet….:-)
one roll of noise insulating foam took +3 months to get to me at least Amazon credited my initial purchase 🙂

February 19, 2022 at 2:40 pm #254953Digakey should have what you want. And they will talk to you if you need help. I use 600+volt 0.15-0.18 UF on my old merc’s and have no problem

February 19, 2022 at 5:29 pm #254961I play around repairing vintage audio gear during the winter months and am having trouble finding certain semiconductors, caps, and resistors right now which are normally available. Digi-Key and Mouser have extremely long wait times for some of them and it could be due to covid. Lots of things we take for granted are in short supply right now.
About those caps, you think ceramics will work OK and hold up? You might want to try and find the data sheets for them and compare them to film caps which we know are reliable in magneto applications.
February 19, 2022 at 5:34 pm #254962Well in light of M.Mohat’s article the X7R type ceramics are compact and work very well . I have the other types round yellow ones about 1 inch 630v and… the little square ones (brown) 630 also ..

OK, but it’s kind of like buying tires for your vehicle. There are snow tires, summer tires, M+S tires, All Terrain tires etc. They are all the same size and will fit the rims, but are meant for different applications.
February 20, 2022 at 9:05 am #255022agree on tires… for caps I am strickly relying on the conclusion of extensive testing and reporting in mr. Mohat’s article. Time will tell if I live long enough 🙂
currently my stack oldies have been refurbished with regular caps …. so I can’t say how things will go . …no more room to store them 🙁
According to BrightSpark’s website, they have shipped about 3,000 of
these X7R-based condenser replacements, with ZERO failures over a 3 year period. In
addition, they have tested dozens of them on “magneto simulators”, running them 24
hours a day for that entire 3 years….also with no failures. (That’s not long enough to
predict how long their entire service life is going to be in magneto applications, but I’m
guardedly optimistic that they’ll last longer than any mylar film condenser in these
applications!Joining AOMCI has priviledges 🙂

well guess I won’t be using any … X7R caps
China tracking says the stuff was handed to me on Feb 02 ??? and…that ain’t so 🙁
Seller notifyed…we shall see if they refund me or reship… if not I’ll try a VISA chargeback
