I’m amazed at how much just an O-Ring costs sometimes. I’ve wanted to start finding standard replacements at the hardware store but haven’t gotten around to that so I just bought an O-Ring kit that I thought would have a few of the sizes we regularly use.

I compared a few of the new OMC O-Rings I have on hand and I found what appears to be a few matches so far. Shift handle, lower unit to exhaust housing spacer, prop shaft bearing, carbon seal for 7-1/2 and 10 HP. Some of the OMC ones seem a little firmer. Would the standard O-Rings in a kit like this be suitable replacements if they’re the same size? These are Nitrile Buna-N

I’ve been using the ones out of that same kit for years now. My auto supply has refills in bulk for when I get low on them. The O rings I do buy from the dealer though are the ones for the carbon seals on the 10 -18 – 20 horse crank shafts as they seem to be a special thickness.

Good to know Mumbles thanks. It’s already paid for itself with just the few I’ve found.

Back when I was regularly doing service on the Big-4 Japanese bikes, I calculated that OEM Honda carburetor o-rings sold for approximately 5X the price of GOLD by weight.

Still cheaper than printer ink! I think someone calculated that an ounce of caviar is less expensive than ink for your printer.

Go to your local Bering and Oil Seal supplier with the old o ring in hand. I buy them in bags of 100. I have a match for the crank o ring as well Jim. Ill find you the number.
