I’m in on all the suggestions, but have found these plastic razor blades a big help. JasonH put me onto them and they are great for anywhere you don’t want to damage a surface. You can get them at any hobby store, Michaels, or off Ebay in large quantities. Give them a try!

Hey Dan, I never heard of those before but just looked them up on eBay and they look like a handy thing to have around, especially for something like this. Thanks for the tip.

Jerry, it is a original motor its a 1949 and shows very little wear. When I pulled the flywheel it looked new under it, coils look very good and all the little screws looked untouched. After I cleaned the carb it will idle slow.

I would not suggest any sharp objects on any surface that you are not willing to REPAINT.
heat source to soften and remove the vinyl or foil sticker.
goo-gone, goof-off, wd-40, etc. to remove the glue residue.

you apply the chemicals AFTER you remove the sticker. The chemicals will not remove the sticker itself.
again, if you are not going to repaint the surface, shy away from sharp objects.

for paper stickers, I have used household ammonia and soap and just rub it off with the fingers
and when you get down to the glue, then the other glue removers come into play.

I guess that I am one of those who say to leave it the way it is. Kinda like the history of the motor. I love the motors that have multiple stickers on them. Especially where a previous caretaker of the motor took the time to put them on neatly!

I guess it’s probably too late…but I’d keep the sticker too! It gives a little history of the motor and credibility of being original paint.

              Nice motor!

Sticker is gone used the heat method worked fine. There is another sticker on top of motor "Kiekhaefer" maybe a Mercury dealer sold it used. Since I am mercuryman it can stay.

I wouldn’t use a blade on that nice old motor. I wouldn’t use goof off either. I would soak the area with WD-40 and eventually, the sticky will give away. You could even try rubbing alcohol too. This will require a little patience, in order to keep from damaging the paint.

I have had several motors with those stupid Ohio stickers on them because I’m right across the river from Ohio. Every time I remove one I have a obvious darker spot where the sticker was. The state Government goofball that came up with those darn things should have been horse whipped. I have a couple with the earlier metal tags that are wired to the motor, and I leave them on…..they kind of look cool. They are usually in a out of the way place anyway.
