Good morning from Maine, thank you very much, well said, well summarized. I will give that a try and then off to visit David in Bethel if I don’t succeed. Well folks , I’m finally back on about a month after my first question which I put out to all members. Wow, all of you have been very helpful and I am glad to say that I removed the 2 most forward screws, noticed no lube draining so knew it was low, coated screws with a sealant, replaced with torque driver, filled lower housing with gear lube, and WAITED. Two weeks into it = NO LEAKS !!! So water tested in a drum and all went well. So I want to thank all you folks and it was a great experience to talk with all of you. I made some great connections for the future too.

Sounds good….You will want to change the gear lube frequently to be sure there are no more problems….Please be sure to drain and refill the gearcase after the last time you use the engine before winter time….Water trapped in the gearcase can freeze and split the gearcase open….

Follow Fleetwin’s advice and after you have run a few tanks of gas drain it. Examine the drained oil and see if there are water droplets in it. If there are only a few just remember to drain maybe a couple of times a summer and at the end of the summer. Depending on wear it is difficult to get it all tight but If there is a lot of water you will need to reseal.
