Mid 60’s OMC 5 and 6hp just below the breaker cam on the crankshaft, how does it work? ❓

Fuel mix comes up thru the bearing and creeps up the crankshaft. The slinger throws it off into a groove where it gets sucked back into the motor thru a small passage in the front crankcase half.

So is it designed to lube the points rubbing against the cam?

The point cam is above the slinger on the crank, so the slinger is not there to help lube the points rubbing blocks/felt wiper.

The exact opposite – it is designed to keep oil OUT of the magneto so it won’t foul the breaker points.
                . . 😉

                    same here 🙂

I did not say the slinger oiled the wick I said the wick oiled the rubbing block of the points

Got it, this motor is missing the wick. I will rig up something.

A new oil wick comes with each set of OMC / BRP points. If you are doing a tune up and you get new points (OMC) you will get a new wick and have a second one for a spare.
