I acquired an Airguide speedometer and tach with my FD-6/’73 40 HP Johnson. I am interested in knowing if I can reuse the tach on a ’54 CD-11. I can not find any model number on my tach, and I can not find another on any site that I can say matches mine. So, I am bringing the question to the best and brightest on the subject I know.

The tags on the back say that this tach has a self contained transmitter, and that the black wire goes to ground and the yellow wire goes to mag "Something" that I can read due to tag damage. All I can read is it looks to start with a "P" and one or two other obliterated letters. There are only the two wires and no other terminals or internal evidence of others that may have existed.

I have attached some pictures to help you to help me.

I have also contacted the folks at coolboats.com and they can not offer me any help other than a $239 bill to make it digital and adaptive to the CD-11.

Anyone recognize the model? Have or know of the existence confirming the wiring of this unit? Any idea what the missing "PXX" term/abbreviation might say?

      Thanks for any help!

If it worked on the 40 hp it should work on your CD. Connect the yellow wire to one of the point leads and the black to ground. 7000 rpm isn’t the best scale for an OMC, but it should work fine.

black ground yellow one set of points. nice looking tach hard to find. just mount the ground then with the motor running touch the yellow to a wire leading to the points to see if it works.

            YELLOW WIRE TO MAG(NETO) PRI(MARY)?

If your outboard is wired for a kill switch, either "kill" wire should do.
