Hello, I’m not very familiar with boat engine. I have recently been renovating my garage and uncovered some items that I never new were in there. One of them was what I expect to be an early year Evinrude engine. I have been unable to find any sort of signifying marks or serial number that would point me towards a definite answer however. I have attached pictures. It is not in the best of shapes, but it has probably been sitting in the corner of the garage for at least 10-15 years. There also 2 other parts that I suspect go with it that I did not take pictures of, but can provide if needed. Thank you for anyone who may have information that can help me identify it.
June 18, 2022 at 10:38 am #261629That’s an old RBM (Row Boat Motor). Chris Scratch should be able to ID it accurately when he sees this.

June 19, 2022 at 8:54 pm #261689Brook has it right, its a rowboat motor built by Lockwood-Ash. Could have been labeled as such, also could have been sold as a Motorgo. They started using that style lower unit in 1916-17. Hope this helps. Yell at Brook if it doesn’t.

June 20, 2022 at 1:07 pm #261712I appreciate everyone’s input in helping me identify it. I don’t see it being worth much in the condition it is in, but I think it will make a cool display if I at least put all the pieces back together and just hang it on the garage wall.

These old motors are not common so it still has value as parts.
Problem is getting connected with the people who need them.
The motor actually looks to be pretty complete minus the gas
tank. Depending on the condition of the internals a gas tank
could be made and the motor could be restored to run again if
it got to the right person. If you decide to use it as a wall hanger
that’s fine. Just don’t scrap it.
Tubs.A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
June 21, 2022 at 6:47 pm #261794Can you show ALL parts that MAY be associated with an old outboard ,,,even rusty remains of tank, As you renovate more might surface. Those here who know can identify that which belong and that which does not, The task of restoration is made easier by including all that can be found with motor. That saud, one rusty lump of metal may look no different than any other to the untrained eye. Collect them all and let the sharp eyes here state their opinion(s), Some might be itching for a Row Boat Motor project.

Aside of restoring & running them. They certainly do make interesting conversation pieces.
