I found a older Johnson but without the normal rope sheave top. I think it may be a A-50. I would think this came up before, but I can’t find it in Ask A Member. It appears like it may be some sort of early recoil or start mechanism. Any Ideas? Thanks Randy S.

I was a recoil start motor. What is missing is the top portion that contained the latch mechanism and spring. They were problematic and often tossed. I’ve (in my limited exposure) only seen one complete one.

Where in the world did the rewind bolt down to?

                  That’s per-dee.
Just for practice how about some
                  more pictures of that motor.

Thanks all, I wouldn’t have thought it looked like that. Great Information. I was looking for odd ball parts at auction, hoping to match something up. Still neat old motor.

So, are these outboards in fact Johnson A-50 ‘s?
I want to add the pics to my archive.
I’m guessing I’ll never see one with a rewind like those!
