Anyone ever come up with a substitute, or make a bushing
to replace the OMC BUSHING 303140
      for the throttle control gear?
If so, I’m curious what you used.

I could buy an over-priced NOS bushing,
but what’s the challenge in that?
      Thanks!

I’d probably use a piece of Delrin if I were going to make one. But the old one usually can be re-used.

Yes, I’ve made them out of Delrin (Acetal) before as thy are stupidly overpriced and have to be ordered in by my dealer. One thing I learned is to bell or taper the top well at the top of the bore. If you don’t and turn it square, the gear wont fit properly and you’ll have to start over again. That gears shaft might be odd sized on these or it may have been worn but I seem to recall using a small boring bar to size the bore after drilling. Too large a hole and the gear will wobble around. Sharp tools with a small radius are a necessity.

Mumbles, if I remember correctly, the bushing wall is only about .035.
I wasn’t sure if a person could machine one on a lathe or not.
            Guess anything is possible!
I looked at the bushing again today. Most of it’s wobble is the bushing
rocking in it’s bore, rather than the gear stud loose in the bushing.
I may just try epoxying the bushing in it bore and call it good…..
then again, making a bushing sounds like a fun challenge!
            Thanks.

BuRP is just trying to get all the old motors junked. The original vendor may still be around. Any old OMC people around to shed some light.

Buccaneer, If you’re not able to make one I just bought a NOS off eBay for 7.95 including shipping. There’s a few left.

Steve, thanks for the head’s up, I didn’t see that one
                  on my searches.

Yup lathe will make them nicely…. Just need the stock and time…..But how many are really in need? Are they the same size or ALL the motors? Those are the questions…..I have the turret for my lathe, so with that, these could be made quite efficiently. As if I don’t have enough projects…LOL

Acetal turns really nice so with multiple light passes, getting the wall down to 0.035 should be no problem. If the bore for the bushing is worn, it could be drilled out and a thicker wall bushing made to fit but using some epoxy to hold it in place is quicker and easier.

Corrosion likes to build up on the outside of the bushing squeezing it tight on the gears shaft. It can build up on the shaft to but a good cleaning of the shaft and bore with a Dremel followed with some Triple Guard grease makes for easy throttle twisting.

Mumbles, Think I’ll order some acetal stock tonight.
Sounds like handy stuff to have around, and maybe
more practical than brass in some cases.
