Does anyone know if there was a stock OMC steering cable bracket/adapter that allowed the cables to hook up lower? The cables rub on the gunnel undersides of my 57 Starcraft ski champ with a 57 javelin mounted as low as possible. The motor really needs to be raised to be optimum and the cables would really bind then. I’m sure I could make something that would work but was curious if anything stock was available that would fit this motor. Thanks for any help…

I had a non-stock bracket for one of my hydros and an rd-17 — it looked a bit like the stock bracket, but the portion where the steering pulleys were affixed was extended downward by about 3-4 inches, dropping the pulleys to a below decks level.. I don’t remember where I got it, but I know I didn’t make it… not sure who did.

You can purchase pulleys that perform like a roller — they have zero degrees of freedom and are meant to be installed in your rear fairings to bring the cables above decks.

I can’t quite picture what you mean by the different pulleys that behave like rollers. I’ll have to look for them. I’m not sure that this would work with this boat as it has fins on the back, but I may not be understanding you correctly. It sounds like the non stock bracket that you mentioned first would be the ticket if I could find one. Thanks for the response, I appreciate it!

Oh I think I get what you mean now. Put the pulleys on the underside of the gunnel where it is rubbing? That could work as long as the cable doesn’t change position as the motor is turned to the extreme….I’ll have to investigate
