In the process of rebuilding and restoring outboards, parts are available through quality resellers such as MarineEngine.com. Some of the parts required for rebuild are common parts that are not necessarily “marine” specific. These parts can be purchased in bulk online or from a local specialty hardware store. The issue is getting the specifications correct as to sizing and material composition. As an example, the shift rod o ring, o rings for the gas tank rebuild, oil seals (carrier bearing, rear prop shaft seal), cotter pins and shear pins and even screws.
I reviewed a topic on this website last night on the shift rod o ring. Members weighed in quite expertly.
Yesterday in the rebuild process of my 1958 Evinrude 5.5 Fisherman I lost the Woodruff key from the pinion gear and need to replace it (it went into what I’ve heard described as the 4th dimension) . It is available on Ebay for $12, the local specialty hardware store (1/2 hour drive) was $.59.
As I said there are individual posts addressing the issue but is there a comprehensive list of these items on this website with their specifications that I haven’t been able to locate. I appreciate the service support and information provided by MarineEng.com and am willing to pay for them. But paying a premium for “common” items seems unnecessary.
Appreciate all the help on this website.
