Restoring a ’57 Golden Javelin…..
In this photo, you see the (unpainted) port-side cowl frame support attached to the engine, and next to it I’m holding an identical (black) cowl frame support that accepts a generator.
Note that the unpainted frame has a "pointy tip" on it that pokes into the cowling bushing which holds the cowl in place. The black frame has no such tip on the front.
Did OMC ever make this frame with a pointy tip AND a generator mount? I would like to have a generator, but the black frame is incompatible with the Javelin cowl in that it lacks the pointy tip.
Anyone know?
November 28, 2017 at 1:20 am #67999The 1958 Gale Products Master parts book shows the generator bracket as being #204068, but it looks just like the one you are holding. This is part of the generator kit for a 1958 35DE10. The pointy bushing mount is not shown on this bracket either. Hope that helps. Maybe others will comment.

November 28, 2017 at 1:48 am #68000As you know, the pointy bracket is necessary for the Johnson hood. But Evinrude and Gale motors did not need the pointy thing, so it was not on their motors (nor was it on newer motors with fiberglass covers)
And yes there was a Johnson generator bracket with the pointy thing.

November 28, 2017 at 2:28 am #68005Push come to shove, I think I can mod the black frame and male a pointy thing with a piece of rod material turned on a lathe. But I’d rather just source the correct bracket as shown above. Really happy to know that it exists…..now the hunt commences!
If anyone has a clue on the part number, please post it!
November 28, 2017 at 3:40 am #68009I recently bought some Javelin parts, and in the box was a generator w/ bracket.
The bracket had # 1538840 written in marker on it.
I’ve looked at my books and can’t come up with a # or diagram for this part,
so I believe this would be the correct #.
This will complement my Javelin project.
Hope this helps.
