I been working on OMC shift and throttle cables.  How do I get this motor end off the cable?   My other boat has a wire holder thing that has two screws that holds it to the wire.  This particular cable is frozen and I would like to get it apart.

Controls made before 1979 had different cables than 1979-up.  Pre 1979 had ends that come off.  1979-up do not come apart.

Thanks Frank, this control box looks like 1960 vintage.  If the cables don’t come apart, they must be newer?   Is it safe to say that the newer cables will work in this old control box?  I am looking for an 8′ cable and the cost seems crazy to me!   I might have to place an add in the website for a cable.  No hurry, just another project I am starting.

I believe that it may be true that newer cables will work in the older box with a conversion kit.  I’m not up to date on that subject.  FYI, Sea Star cables are “Type 400” for the older ones, and “Type 479” for the newer kind.
