I am working on a 1963 Gale 25. (Fiberglass hood)
I have to replace one of the rubber mounts on the top of the exhaust housing. On the earlier Johnson RDs, I have done so by removing the lower pan and releasing the lower mounts. That allows the swivel tune to pivot on the front center mount and I can get the side ones in. Will this work on the Gale. To remove the pan, the powerhead needs to come off. Not a big deal, but I would like to avoid it.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Remove the lower mounts clamshells, and the nuts from the upper mounts. Remove the vertical throttle shaft and the screw from the bottom of the fuel connector. Then you can lift the whole motor out of the steering bracket. Upper mounts are then a piece of cake.

I’ve had countless of them apart in this manner, but I’m sitting here trying to get a mental picture of the upper front mount nuts. Surely one of them can be loosened enough to slip out of the slot, but I can’t visualize it right now.

Needless to say, a hoist will come in mighty handy.

          Frank,
I got it apart as you described. The front center mount and one side mount had failed, so it came apart easy. What is the proper sequence for reassembly? The front center mount is giving me a hard time. If I install it on the exhaust housing, I cant get it through the hole on the swivel bracket. If I install it on the swivel bracket, I can drop the exhaust housing down onto it because it is slotted, by the area is not accessible to tighten the nut. As I said in my earlier post. I am used to doing the early RDs with the carb and front half of the lower pan removed.
