I’m in the process of replacing Wico coils on a Martin 75 with
OMC Universal. I just happen to have two OMC coils (brand unknown) that
slid off the laminates easy after unbending the retainer tab.
I had a few more OMC coils, but these were German made ones
with no retainer tabs…. possibly glued onto the laminates?

If I were to do another conversion what brand of coils would I look
for that come off the laminates easy, or better yet, can you
buy just the coils without the laminates?

I know this question has been asked before, but I can not find
the question, nor the answer……. perhaps it was on the old boards.
      Thanks!

I just took two Sierra OMC coils off their laminations. They are friction retained by plastic ribs in the square hole. I cut a one inch slot in a piece of wood to support the coils and pushed the lams out with an arbor press and a 3/8 in bolt. No sweat. But I had to hacksaw and split the old Wico coils to get them off. As far as I know the OMC coils are not available without their laminations. You can get genuine (?) Wico coils bare, probably through Chrysler/Mercury channels, but they seem to cost a lot more.Coil Kit 889493a0, over $110.

Thanks AMuller. Good to know the Sierra coils will work!
