Yup I would leave it alone.

Or; compromise and just do the ivory part. But no way would I mess with that green.

They are only original once. After you paint it, it is just another refinished motor.

          It’s unanimous

That one doesn’t need restoration. Like others have said it would be easy to find one that is beaten up to restore.

The paint and decals are in excellent condition for being sixty one years old. There’s not many of them left from that era in that good condition. I’d run it as is.

A hood like this one which is a bit more weathered and salt beaten would make a better candidate for your neighbours offer.

Yep, another vote to let it stay original. Find another model you like (or another one just like that one) in rough shape (you can get one for a song all day) and restore it instead of that sweet original. Any missing parts you’d be able to find here for nothing or next to nothing. I have a 1953 10 hp that would be a good candidate. You anywhere near Wisconsin?

That original patina looks great!….I’d leave that one be – maybe put a coat of automotive wax on it to protect and further enhance the shine. I’ve got a lot of old motors and only a couple look that good! Even the propeller still has most all of it’s paint!

I agree with everyone here. I would not consider restoring this one. I like to restore the junk ones nobody wants anyway.

If you restore just the ivory portion, it would stand out like a sore thumb. It’s scars have been earned over the tests of time. Wash it up real nice and appreciate what it is and has been through.
