I’ve got around 70 motors, a lot of them waiting to be revived, but I find most of them can be made to look amazingly good, if I just cleanup/shine up. So far, the only one I’ve painted is a 1954 7-1/2 Evinrude that somebody had painted camoflage and probably used it for duck hunting. I used blue and white "Krylon" spray cans, the blue being metallic and a darker, deeper blue than original for 1954; and I did not put graphics on it. – my non-collector friends think it looks fantastic!
Now I’m thinking about painting a 1956 30 Johnson, because this motor must have spent most all of it’s life out in the sun. The case is faded so bad that it almost looks like it was originally a white motor (kind of like a ’58),but there are traces of faded Holiday Bronze left here and there, and it’s definitely a ’56. Overall, it does not look good, graphics have also deteriorated in the sun big time. I like patina, but there’s a limit!
