I don’t have the locking pin in, so this should all be a mute point, no?

Best I can tell everything is working as it should. When I pull the tilt lock button (#66) (on the left of the gooseneck) forward all the way, it actuates the lever (#69) and shaft (#60) that lifts the lock latch (#56) between the gooseneck and transom bracket.

I really don’t want to take it apart all the way to fix it, I’m hoping I’m just doing something wrong?

      Thanks!

Fixed! – I did have to drop the gearcase anyway for a water pump service so I dropped it, removed the shock mount bracket and pulled the motor and upper housing up and out.

I had to mount the transom clamp assembly onto my stand, and then use a very heavy (and long, think Archimedes…LOL) steel bar. The ones the construction guys use to break up rocks when digging in tough soil.

I sounded like I was ripping everything apart (I had already used PB Blaster liberally, nothing doing with that) when I pulled the gooseneck over to the “up” position, but that did it! Must have been some really heavy corrosion where the bolt meets that 1/2 of the transom clamp. I couldn’t even hammer the bolt out of place from the other side.

Anyway, works like it is brand new now. Reverse pin in or out, it will unlock and lock into position as it should.

So I wasn’t doing anything wrong. Just a stubborn bolt with rust/corrosion/gunk holding me up.

        Thanks for all the help.

        Best Regards,

You will be impressed with how well those motors run.  The best of them were the 60’s model Chryslers….as opposed to the SeaKings and other re-brands.  Better quality in the cowlings, metal props instead of plastic that came later etc.  Over the years they kept getting cheaper….one little thing at a time.  The basics were still there though.

Very simple and very reliable.  And lightweight!

Thanks – I’m at the point where I’m trying to find water pump parts.

Looks like no-one makes that stuff anymore.

I’m going to scrub the website to see if there are replacement/superceded parts numbers.

Thanks again. I’m not going to restore this one. Just get it running and find someone who needs a cheap, reliable motor.

Take a  look and see if it has one of the 10 vane impellers in there.  Those are very durable;  if it looks decent you can just leave it be.
