I recently purchased this outboard from a small engine repair shop for $30. Someone painted over any decals and data plate (couldn’t locate any) so I could not determine any information about this unit. It is a single cylinder water cooled motor. The side covers were removed when I got it. If anyone can help me identify make, model and year, I’d be thrilled! I have attached several photos.
Thanks,
Frank

November 8, 2022 at 9:01 pm #268832If there is remnants of original blue and yellow paint, that would point to a Sea Bee

November 8, 2022 at 9:26 pm #268834Joe, Someone did a really bad job of painting the entire motor blue and white with a brush and covered whatever original paint and decals were on it. At some point I will start stripping the paint off to see what remains underneath. The more pictures I see of older Sea Bee outboards I believe that’s what it is.
November 9, 2022 at 12:49 pm #268860Typically, the run -of -the mill homeowner paint is not nearly as durable as the factory stuff, Good chance that with the initial application of a chemical stripper, you will see the original paint.

November 9, 2022 at 1:25 pm #268861Which do you want it to be? Choices are Western Flyer, Hiawatha, Sea Bee, Sea King.
November 9, 2022 at 3:01 pm #268871+ Viking, Atlas, Brooklure , made in 1.5, 3, 5 and 12 hp.
I have all 7 white labelled 1.5 and the Evinrude version (weedless) a close relative, along with several 3 & 5 in various condition.
The serial # plate should be between the 2 transom clamps. The tank looks like it is for a Sea Bee.
I believe you have a 3 hp, but the cast iron jug looks like it’s from an Evinrude Sportsman (around ’47, ’48) . As far as I know Gale 3s have an all-aluminum crank case and jug… Maybe Frankr can straighten that out.
