I have this little outboard motor. It has Outboard motors corp on the top plate.I’ve been a member since 1989 and have a lot of outboards mostly Johnsons.I’ve never heard
of Outboard Motors corp.Does anybody have any info on this? Is it just an early Johnson?I have some early Johnsons, but not like this.I hope somebody has some info.
Your 1955 and earlier Johnson/Evinrude motors were actually built by OMMC, not OMC, as they are commonly referred to. Yeah, I know I’m guilty as I say OMC to!

That’s interesting,I did not know that.Do you have any information as to why the Outboard Motors Corp.designation rather than OMMC appears in rope plate castings and decals as early as 1930?
I believe the original OMC was formed in 1929 and early OMC (Outboard Motor Corporation or Outboard Motor Co, depending on who you talk to) was expanding and producing more products than just outboard motors and changed its name in 1936 to the Outboard Marine & Manufacturing Company. (OMMC) They changed the name again in 1956 to Outboard Marine Corporation. or the OMC we are more familiar with today.
