Hi, I’m really new to posting anything here and just learning how to rebuild outboards. I inherited a Johnson CD 15 and an Evinrude 7518. I’ve learned a lot on uTube but collectors are telling me to find regular service manuals in .pdf format. I have the Seloc book but find it too general and difficult to follow. Can anyone give me a source to download files or purchase hard copies?
January 5, 2022 at 12:34 pm #252394Hi James,
A good place to start is to go to the Inner Sanctum and Garrys Drop Box and download the Johnson Service Manual. 10th edition. It will be extremely useful. Often parts manuals can be had via this forum, just ask for what you need. A couple of the members have collections of them in PDF form.Good Luck!

I had mine printed in a local print shop and spring bound into two large binders (for flat reading) with transparent plastic cover sheets front and back for protection 🙂
welcome aboard ! your CD15 is a great little engine easy to maintain. if your 2 hose tanks is rusted or unusable you can covert to a single hose pump set up
a good book to buy is CHEAP OUTBOARDS by MAX E Wawrzniak 3rd .
before venturing into it… and spending to much $$$$ take a reading of compression with 5-6 good pulls for both cyl. and report your findings back here .
If the innards are giving you low compression you will have to decide how deep into servicing you want to go.
the CD is a bit tricky impeller wise but NOT difficult it is a fun hobby see couple of videos

January 5, 2022 at 8:37 pm #252430The Johnson red book is your best source for sure, along with the proper parts manual/breakdown for each engine. Amazingly enough, you can still get many of the parts usually needed either new or used. Start with the basics, compression and gear lube draining/examination, do NOT remove the little phillips screw, it holds the inner shift linkage together. Remove the lower fill plug, and the upper vent plug/screw, then have a look at what drains out and get back to us.
January 5, 2022 at 10:10 pm #252433Thanks SeaKaye 12, lloyd, fleetwin, and Crosbyman. Good to hear from another Canadian. The quick response means more than sources. It means I’m not alone in this adventure. Thanks to AOMC.
