My old parts books only have the forward/reverse/pinion gears listed as a set. Does anyone know if each gear has a P/N?

I’m sitting on a large slew of NOS parts, but need the P/N’s to find them in my own stash!

According to the Evinrude reference guide, these gearsets were only used in 1955 and 1956 models. Are other gearcases compatible with these two years?

        For the 25/30hp 1951 to 1956

        Fwd Gear: 375759
        Reverse Gear: 302517
        Pinion Gear:375835
        Gear Set: 375861

        For the 1957 35hp

        Fwd Gear: 375759
        Reverse Gear: 302517
        Pinion Gear: 308692
        Gear Set: 376996

For the 1958 to about ’66 35/40 hp

        Fwd Gear: 377174
        Reverse Gear: 305293
        Pinion Gear:308692
        Gear Set: 378726

Whole Gear Cases can be swapped as a whole in other situations, just not individual gears into a different set. As an example the 1957 35hp has the same forward and reverse gear, just a different pinion, so if you needed just the forward and reverse gear for you ’55 or ’56 25/30hp, you could salvage them from a ’57 case.

        This help?

yes, where did you get the P/N’s? My original parts books don’t list these individually.

it might be because the one I have is a Johnson parts book. The evinrude ones seem to tease them out into more detail.

Get yourself a Johnson Common Parts Reference Guide. I have several from a 1965 Evinrude (they call it something slightly different) to a 1978. You can use more than one as numbers change. Some old parts/price books help too so you can supercede numbers.
The books cover all major common parts & assemblies. Great reference material for older motors by models.
