Hey Friends, I recently got a 1957 5 1/2HP Johnson seashorse from my cousin. It needs a lot of work, and I am going to completely tear it apart and rebuild it. There are a number of rough paint spots or zero paint, bare metal areas. It’s the Burgundy color (very faded) Would would be a rust oleum or similar paint color that would come close to matching the original factory paint color?

      Thank you.

If you don’t want to buy the original factory paint colors, a couple of Rustoleum colors you might look at are Dark Cherry Metallic or Burgundy.

Other possibilities, if you can find them, are Dupli-Color Vintage Red Pearl and Plasti-Kote GM #7198.  Plasti-Kote used to be available at Advanced Auto Parts stores, but I’m not sure they still carry it.

Keep in mind that all three years of this vintage had slightly different shades of that burgundy/red color.   I’m not sure how much it matters, or how much you want to spend,  this option is available:

PS:  Be sure your engine is a 1957 first
