A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

You may already know you can get original outboard color paint for a lot of motors at

            vintageoutboardpaint.com

Use same brand/type of primer as not all primers are compatible with all paints. One exception is the 2-part epoxy primer – I have not seen a paint that it is not compatible with (I haven’t tried it with vintageoutboard paint). The epoxy primer is also a sealer – not cheap, and you need a spray gun, as it doesn’t come in a spray can.

Surface prep is important! If aluminum has sat bare for much time, it needs to be cleaned to get the aluminum oxide off that forms rapidly, especially in high humidity. It’s the stuff that rubs off gray on your fingers. Some use aluminum cleaner made for outdoor air conditioning unit aluminum coils. Some get by with an “etching primer”.

Just as outbdnut2 stated about the paints. All good info.  Eastwood company does sell 2K Aerospray spray paint epoxy primer in cans. Gray and Black. I have used it and had great results with it. Just follow instructions exactly. Wear respirator, safety glasses and a throw away paint suit if you want to keep paint dust off of clothes and skin. (it is epoxy paint and very hard to remove).   Once can is activated, you only have a certain amount of time to use it. I don’t remember how long but I think it’s 24-48 hours.  Once pieces are primed, it is possible to topcoat with color within a short period of time OR let dry several days and scuff sand and thentopcoat. You can also call Eastwood to see if your topcoat paint is compatible with the epoxy paint.

as far as decals, there are people on this site that sell decals and you can also do a internet search for decals for your year, make and model engine.

3M  vinyl 1/8” tape is great for masking  different colors. Gives a clean edge and can bend around curves. Can get it on Amazon.
