April 8, 2022 at 9:09 pm #257775203711 is the part number for a 1956 15 HP crankshaft in both manual and electric start motors.
April 8, 2022 at 9:36 pm #257778Here’s a parts manual I posted the other day.
There might be two, maybe three P/N’s for crankshafts as ’56 was the year these motors came with either a lip seal or a carbon seal on the lower crank journal. I believe FR mentioned some cranks also had a sleeve on the bottom of the crank which tended to fall off. Regardless, try and go with a carbon seal as they have proven themselves over time and the lip seals tend to fail.

April 8, 2022 at 10:24 pm #257783We are looking at using the crankshaft from a model 15918 to replace a the crankshaft in a model 15016. I recall that on RD-18 (30HP) motors you have to change the crankshaft bottom roller bearing to change to a carbon seal. The carbon seal runs against the top surface of the changed bearing. The model 15016 bottom crankshaft bearing is a plain bearing so I am guessing that model will have to have the lip seal. Anyway if anyone has a parts list for Model 15918 that would set us straight on the seal type and maybe we could tell if the crankshaft could be used in a Model 15016.
Thank you
April 8, 2022 at 10:44 pm #257784277594 Crankshaft & sleeve assy. was replaced by 204100. Likewise, 203711, 203657 were also replaced by 204100. So 204100 is the latest number. I THINK 204100 had a chrome plated end where the seal rides. As you suspect, the 1957-18hp carbon seal crank won’t fit in he 15hp case because of the lower bearing/bushing. All of the above mentioned cranks used the troublesome 303804 lip-type seal. I think there might be an improved version of the 303804 also. More research required to find out.
EDIT: 303804 seal is superseded by 0321467. I have one here in front of me. It looks like better quality.

Johnny has told us that the crankshaft in Model 15918 is 203711. Does that mean that we could use 203711 crankshaft to replace 277594 in Model 15016?
Thank you so much for doing all the research above.
