      Yeah, that part number is the part number for ONE piston ring, so you would need 6 of part number 301787 for your engine. The part number mumbles supplied contains 3 rings, enough for one piston, so you would need two of the newer part number….
      You are correct though, don’t know why that original part number for one ring does not supercede to the newer part number that includes three rings.

        My OMC Superceding Parts List shows the original 301787 ring set superceding to 486278 which is the number on the Perfect Circle packaging used by OMC and then superceding again to the current 378416.

        I’ve used vintage PC 486289 (378432) rings before in the 5.5 and 6 horse motors and every ring had to be filed individually to get the required end gap. NOS 486278 rings might need the same treatment. I dunno.
