Hi Everyone
Help please !!
As a result of our display of vintage outboards at the recent Hutchwilco Boat Show last May here in Auckland, we have been given the above outboard. We have established that it was made in Australia at Mordialloc in Victoria, possibly during the late 1950s, under the trade name Seacraft. The motor it’s self is air cooled and was made by Trojan Engineering of Croydon in the UK.with the trunk, gearbox etc made in Australia. It appears complete, so we are keen to get it running again. We have achieved a good spark after replacing the condenser, but have discovered that the piston rings were completely stuck with carbon. We gave the piston and rings a good soak in Sea Foam in the hope of freeing them up but unfortunately it didn’t help and when trying to remove them, one broke, so can anyone please advise us where replacements can be obtained. Fortunately the bore and piston aren’t scored.
Thanks very much in anticipation of some help.
Cheers

August 20, 2016 at 9:51 am #42384Hello Buccaneer and Collectorinspector
Thanks both of you very much for replying to my problem and your suggestions.
Collectorinspector, you will be interested to hear that I had tried your first suggestion (Franklin Engineering) but their price was $130 so that’s why I thought I would try our club.
I will contact JPPistons too and see how I get on.
Unfortunately I don’t know how to put photos on the website …….I am waiting for a friend of mine to give me some instruction when he has some spare time. Interesting that you say the Trojan is very common. They seem to be unknown here until we received this one. They certainly are easy to work on.
Thanks once again
Monte NZAugust 29, 2016 at 10:07 am #42871GOOD NEWS! I have managed to get two rings from a manufacturer an hours drive from Auckland for $50 NZ. Fortunately they were a standard ring and didn’t have to be specially made. (Specially made would have been $125.NZ) The next job is to machine the ends of the rings to fit over the locator pins in the ring grooves.
Thanks once again for all the suggestions.
