I was putting the mid section of my RDE-17 back together yesterday and I can’t for the life of me find where this part goes. I can’t find it on the diagrams either. Can someone please help me?

December 16, 2016 at 2:44 pm #49258Wouldn’t you know it as soon as I posted this it popped into my head. I think it is a ground spring (part #304076) that grounds the throttle gear shaft assembly to the steering bracket. Sorry for a worthless post.
December 16, 2016 at 2:56 pm #49259Worthless, I think not!
How’s about showing us exactly where it goes, marineengine.com no longer has diagrams for the 1955 models…December 16, 2016 at 3:11 pm #49262Ok so the diagrams show it somewhat above the steering bracket which is a little confusing since it actually goes underneath it. Here is the diagram and a picture of the underside of my actual bracket. You can see the two pieces cast into the steering bracket that will hold it in place between the throttle gear shaft and the steering bracket itself. Need to get everything grounded so you don’t get zapped 😯 !

December 16, 2016 at 6:43 pm #49279FrankR or someone else do you have a picture of where that Mercury switch mounts? I don’t have one but I found one on ebay I may buy but I am unsure of where it is supposed to be mounted on the motor. I still haven’t decided if it is worth the money to buy it or not just for a safety feature. I can just ground the starter switch and remember to not start it while it is wide open and I should be fine.

It prevents electric starting at fast throttle settings on this particular motor. But on some newer ones, it also prevents operation of the vacuum cut-out switch at high speed throttle settings.
